Being safe around water is a shared responsibility – one that requires awareness, education, and proactive measures. By understanding the risks and taking simple precautions, we can drastically reduce the number of drowning fatalities.
From the importance of learning to swim to ensuring constant supervision and using safety equipment, there are numerous steps individuals, families, and communities can take to stay safe around water.
Water Safety Saves Lives!
Water is a source of recreation, relaxation, and even livelihood for millions of people around the world. Whether at the beach, in pools, or near lakes and rivers, water activities bring joy and respite.
However, despite the many benefits, water also poses significant risks, with drowning remaining one of the leading causes of accidental death worldwide.
Each year, thousands of lives are lost in preventable drowning incidents, many of which involve children and individuals who may lack proper swimming skills. In Los Angeles County, hundreds of children and young adults experience drowning or near-drowning incidents each year.
