The 2020-21 Budget Act has included 16.7 million of ongoing funding for all regional centers in California to improve and promote Language Access and Cultural Competency (LACC) to effectively serve diverse communities. In its initial year, San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center (SG/PRC) was allocated $985,993.00 to support these efforts. In FY 24-25, DDS continued to allocate $985,993.00 for implementing the LACC plan. In 2024, the LACC team provided interpretation in over 300 meetings and translated 300+ documents. The LACC grant also made it possible to host several Cultural Gatherings, all staff Cultural Competency Training, Enhanced Service Parent Workshop, Empowerment Conference and New Family Orientation. The grant also allowed us to produce multiple videos on important topics from the Community Information Forum and made it available in all threshold languages.
The primary purpose of these funds is to improve the overall individual served and family experience and to help facilitate more consistent access to information, services, and supports, with particular focus for individuals who are multi-lingual, monolingual, and diverse cultural groups. SG/PRC is committed to supporting our diverse communities and is looking forward to expanding upon our current efforts as identified in the Language Access and Cultural Competency Plan (LACC).
