Service Access & Equity Department

Overview

Salvador Gonzalez, Director of our Service, Access, and Equity Department, provides oversight of this department. San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center (SG/PRC) is committed to understanding, communicating, and effectively promoting activities, events, and resources that focus on identifying and addressing the needs of the individuals served and/or their families in an equitable manner. Through these efforts, our agency’s goal is to encompass a larger awareness, an inclusive presence, a broader understanding, and the ability to build on cultural knowledge and put into practice lasting skills that will enhance service accessibility to our underserved and underrepresented communities.

This department collaborates with the Department of Developmental Services and our “Equity Community Partners” to develop and implement strategies that promote equity and inclusion to meet the unique needs of each individual and family in different settings.

Key Positions

Community Outreach Specialists

  • Engage in community outreach events and activities to promote community access to services offered by the regional center. The primary goals for these specialists are to:
    • Organize, provide training, and information to agencies and families for better access to SG/PRC services.
    • Help to bridge parent communications with the Service Coordinators
    • Present information about regional center to schools and other agencies
    • Collaborate with Support Groups for Parents & Individual Served.
    • Review Purchase of Service (POS) disparity data & presents results to the agency’s staff, board & community
    • Develop, implement, and manage POS Equity Projects
    • Collaborate and provide support to Equity Partners
    • Update list of Support Groups, Generic Resource List and other material for better access of services.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist

  • Supports individuals, their families, and the SG/PRC community with the following services and needs:
    • Interpreting resources
    • IPP meetings, consultations, IDT meetings
    • Communication assessments
    • Advocacy resources in place for emergencies
    • Communication Devices: ie: (video phones), Apps, Video Relay Service (VRS)
    • Community Engagement
    • Staff and community trainings
    • Generic Resources

Education Specialist

  • Consults with regional center staff, individuals with developmental disabilities, their families and care providers regarding the Individualized Education Program (IEP), including inclusion, transition, and assistive technology.
    • Trains families, individuals and Service Coordinators on IEP and 504 Plans
    • Attends IEPs as a support to SC and family/child
    • Assist with students College Educational plans and connecting students with Disabled Student Services on college/university campuses
    • Builds relationships with SELPAs, School Districts to improve educational services
    • Reviews letters regarding conservatorship to support service coordination staff

Enhanced Service Coordination (1:40)

  • The support provided in this enhanced service coordination position is to improve service access and delivery to generic services for individuals from diverse communities who face barriers to regional center services, such as those who are non-white, non-English speaking, and hearing impaired.

Language Access and Cultural Competency (LACC) Specialists

  • The primary focus of this team is to help facilitate more consistent access to information, services, and supports, with particular focus for individuals who are multi-lingual, monolingual, and of diverse cultural groups

Self-Determination Program Teams

  • SG/PRC is proud to have a dedicated team of SDP Specialists and Leadership to help support the success of SDP participation. Our SDP Team engages with and assists families to navigate through the Self-Determination Program. For more information about the SDP Program, click here
