(Hiring and Retaining Bilingual Staff for In-Home Services)

As of April 1, 2017, vendors of certain in-home services may apply for a monetary incentive for hiring and retaining staff who are bilingual in English and another language other than English.  Providers need to apply using the SG/PRC ABX2-1 Equity Proposal – Service Provider Incentive Application Form (see below). This incentive program is available through November 2018 or until the funds allocated by DDS for this purpose have been expended.

SG/PRC applied for and was granted ABX2-1 funds in FY 2016-2017 from the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) to provide monetary incentives to service providers to hire and retain bi-lingual staff to increase their capability of serving more individuals and families who are bi-lingual or monolingual, from January 1, 2017 to the present date. 

Incentive Amount: Each incentive payment to the provider is based on $500 for each staff member who has been hired since January 1, 2017 and has been retained by the agency for a minimum of 90 days. To be eligible, staff members must work a minimum of 10 hours per week. The funds can be used to help offset the costs of recruitment or in other ways based on the discretion of the service provider. Checks are made out to the service provider and the amount is reportable as income.

Staff Language Requirements:  Bilingual in English and one or more of the following:

  • American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Cantonese
  • Korean
  • Mandarin
  • Spanish
  • Vietnamese
  • (other languages will be considered)

Eligible In-home Service Provider Categories:

  • Agency Respite Workers (not parent choice)
  • Applied Behavior Analysis/Behavior Management Services
  • Independent Living Services (ILS)
  • Infant Development
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Supported Living Services (SLS)
